Three way we make your life easier with our WordPress websites
Not all WordPress websites are designed equally, and it is a positive and negative in the space with WordPress being an approachable platform for all tech levels. One of the elements at Invisible Dragon we aim to do is to make small changes to your website much easier than you would otherwise expect.
1. Updating your Company Address
Sometimes your company changes address and you need to update it everywhere. Flyers, business cards, government databases and of course your website! Then you quickly realise you have put your company website in a lot of different nooks and crannies of the website and it’s a bigger task than you expect to update.
Our websites have a central panel for company information, along with other items which are used across your website. So in the event of a company address, or company name change you can log into here and update your details and they’ll appear everywhere we’ve used this information.
2. Important Information
If you have a critical message about your business that customers need to know about, we also offer as standard a notification banner which sits at the top of the page with a couple different styles. This can also be used as a seasonal greeting with a snow based theme should you wish to use it.
When things get even more important, it can be upgraded to a popup upon launching the page which provides users with immediate information. This can be used in case of an important closure, or other information which may impact users ability to use your company’s offerings.
3. Focusing on content
While we firmly believe your website is your website, and upon request we do offer full admin access – by default we opt for a lower set of permissions. In simpler terms, “there’s nothing which should allow you to break your website available”. We disable access to plugins, themes, file editing and focus simply on the content of your website.
For e-commerce this can be expanded to include managing your store’s orders and products. We can also tweak this depending upon the types of people using your website – for example in an e-commerce situation, we can make it so packing staff can access orders and update them but they can’t alter products, post blog posts etc.
This also helps improve your website from a security standpoint. We’ll happily give more permissions when required, but for most day-to-day edits we find this is a secure and simple way to handle things.
Conclusion
This is just a simple selection of the minor changes we’ve crafted WordPress into being a platform we use for delivering high quality, easy to update websites for our customers which reduce headaches for everyone, and keep your business moving.
